Scribes of the Orient is a boutique media services consultancy with bases in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur. What does that mean? Well, content remains king, and we create and manage content in all its myriad guises.

Scribes of the Orient's project portfolio is split into two categories: 1) collaborating with global publishers on content creation, research and delivery; and 2) assisting multinational companies, marketing and PR firms on pretty much any media and communications project they care to throw at us. With broad-based experience and understanding of different Asian markets, we are experts at getting your message right in Asia.

In recognition of our Asia expertise, Scribes has been invited to join the professional juries of the San Pellegrino World's Best Restaurant Awards, AsiaSpa Baccarat Awards and Miele Guide Special Jury. We have also given conference presentations and facilitated travel and tourism panels in Shanghai and Singapore.

Scribes was founded in 2007 by two experienced Asia-based publishing and marketing professionals, Gary Bowerman and Amy Fabris-Shi. Our team comprises experienced journalists, copywriters, editors, translators and online/offline project specialists.

Gary Bowerman, Founding Director

Since cutting his teeth in legal publishing in the early 1990s, Oxford-born Gary Bowerman has edited several business and travel titles, including ASTA Network and Shanghai Business Review. He has interviewed global business leaders, celebrities and sports stars, and contributes to Business Traveler, Luxe Guides, ZAGAT Survey, CNN Traveller, Business Travel Connexion and Conde Nast Traveller among others. Now based in Kuala Lumpur after six years in China, he divides his time between writing for global publishers and working with clients ranging from property developers and financial institutions to hotels and manufacturers.

 

Amy Fabris-Shi, Founding Director

A former professional ballerina turned travel and lifestyle writer and consultant, Sydney-born Amy Fabris-Shi has been based in China for almost a decade. She worked as a magazine editor in the city before co-founding Scribes of the Orient in 2007. Amy divides her time between reporting from exotic locales for publications including DestinAsian, Centurion, New York Times – T Magazine, Wallpaper* and Concierge.com, and helping clients across Asia craft inspired content and messaging. She specialises in the luxury hospitality and lifestyle sectors.
